Much like Venice, half of Lynn Domina’s hometown of Marquette, on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, consists of water–chiefly, Lake Superior, which is the largest body of freshwater in the world. First came French missionaries in the early 17th Century, then came the fur trappers, then came the geologists who found the iron deposits, then came the poets.
